OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION Exhibition “Endowments and Philanthropy in the Tradition of the Serbian People” was opened today at the Belgrade City Hall. The organizer and sponsor of the exhibition is Serbian Business Club “PRIVREDNIK” – Association of Successful Serbian Businessmen. Danko Djunić, Club President, opened the exhibition on behalf of the organiser, while Prof. Dr. Irina Subotić, art historian, gave professional introduction into the exposition. Numerous guests from the world of culture and business attended the event. The entire project that resulted in the exhibition represents fulfilment of one of the most important goals of the Club: creation of business environment in which it will be possible to continue the tradition of the pre-war Economic Society ‘Privrednik', which became prominent through its 40-years long history until World War II by supporting education of craftsmen and young people. Opening the exhibition, Mr. Djunić said that the exhibition is among this year's important Club projects in the segment of its humanitarian social activities. In addition, it is thematically prepared in the year when important work on codification of philanthropic activity and its harmonization with European values began. It was mentioned that the Club, as sponsor, pursues permanent activities, mainly by providing scholarships to talented pupils and students and supporting institutions for care of the children and the elderly. Businessmen gathered in the Club, through the Association, members and companies they run, foster socially responsible behaviour of large companies and promote it as good corporate citizenship. The exhibition is complemented with a catalogue that provides comprehensive review of the history of philanthropic activity, systematised through endowments – medieval monasteries, endowments in Sremski Karlovci, Novi Sad and Belgrade . The exhibition in the central hall of the City Assembly of Belgrade will be opened until 1 July 2009.
